Cameras to protect students and schools

More and more schools are installing surveillance cameras in school grounds, in a bid to reduce the level of bullying, theft and vandalism. Principals are using the 24-hour closed-circuit surveillance systems as ‘third umpires’ to settle any schoolyard disputes. Read more here…
Parents to receive NAPLAN report cards

FEDERAL 2008 Budget

On Tuesday 13 May 2008, the Australian Government Treasurer, The Hon Wayne Swan MP, delivered the 2008 Federal Budget. In his speech to Parliament, Treasurer Swan stated that ‘tonight we begin to honour the Government’s commitment to an Education Revolution’. In a media release accompanying the Budget, the Minister for Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, The Hon Julia Gillard MP, emphasised that ‘no Australian student should be disadvantaged when it comes to receiving a quality education’ and that ‘the government will continue to work closely with state, territory and non-government education authorities to deliver world-class facilities for all Australian students’. Victorian 2008 Budget

The Association of Independent Schools of Victoria (AISV) believes that, in a state where the cost of education is increasing as a result of the Victorian Government’s policy decisions, the Victorian Government is not ‘taking action so all children get the best start in life no matter where they live’. AISV further believes that a Budget that only seeks ‘to ensure that our government schools give young Victorians the high quality learning experiences they need’ is unacceptable. Read more here…
