Australian Government to Expand Primary School Mental Health Program Media Release, The Hon. Nicola Roxon, MP, 05/10/09 The Minister for Health and Ageing, The Hon. Nicola Roxon, MP, has announced that the Australian Government will allocate $18.7 million to expand a primary school mental health initiative. The KidsMatter Primary Initiative aims to promote mental health, prevent mental illness and initiate early intervention for primary school students and a pilot program involved 101 Australian primary schools has previously been implemented. Minister Roxon announced that $12.2 million would be allocated to implement the initiative in up to 400 schools across Australia in 2009 and 2010. In addition, the Australian Government has allocated $6.5 million over three years to develop and pilot a KidsMatter project for the early childhood sector.
