School Enrolments Media Release, Independent Schools Council of Australia, 28 January 2010 Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has shown that the number of students enrolled in Australian independent schools continued to grow in 2009. The Schools Australia, Preliminary Data 2009 report indicated that, across Australia, full-time equivalent independent school enrolments increased by 10,287, or 2.17 per cent, between 2008 and 2009. By comparison, government school enrolments increased by 9998 over the same period, an increase of 0.44 per cent. Catholic school enrolments increased by 1.07 per cent, or 7491 students. In Victoria, independent school enrolments increased by 1474, or 1.25 per cent. Government and Catholic school enrolments increased by 2240 and 2169 respectively, or 0.42 per cent and 1.17 per cent. Victorian independent schools account for 14.1 per cent of total enrolments.
